Liebe Freunde, liebe Freundinnen, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen!

Wir suchen für aNOther festival am 14. und 15.03.2026 im Klangtheater des Future Art Lab, mdw - Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien künstlerische Beiträge zum Motto „Dirty Hands“, die bewusst disziplinen- bzw. genre-übergreifend konzipiert sind.

Die Dringlichkeit, sich auch als Künstler:innen mit der existenziellen Gefahr des Klimawandels auseinanderzusetzen, wirft die Frage auf, auf welche Weise das geschehen könnte oder sollte. Während Künstler:innen vermutlich nicht unbedingt Expert_innen sind, wenn es um die Berechnung des CO₂-Fußabdrucks einer Performance geht, sind sie doch höchstqualifiziert, die Abgrenzung von Natur und Kultur auszuloten oder auch grundsätzlich in Frage zu stellen.

Muss Kunst notwendigerweise künstlich im Sinne von unnatürlich sein? Wäre es nicht ein künstlerischer Ansatz, sich von Abstraktheit und Abgehobenheit – vielleicht auch von menschlichem Hochmut – ein Stück weit zu verabschieden und sich buchstäblich die Hände schmutzig zu machen?

Da das Festival einen Schwerpunkt im musikalischen Bereich (Neue Komposition, Improvisation usw.) hat, sollten die Beiträge zumindest überwiegend musikalisch geprägt sein oder einen klaren Bezug zur Musik aufweisen, daneben aber idealerweise mehrere Disziplinen bzw. Genres kombinieren, beispielsweise aus folgenden Bereichen:

• Musik unterschiedlichster Genres, aus dem nicht-kommerziell-orientierten Bereich, (wie z.B. Neue Komposition, Improvisation, world music, fusion, Singer-Songwriter etc.)

• Performance / Installationen / Konzeptkunst

• Lecture-Performance / Wissenschafts­vermittlung in künstlerischer Form

Wir interessieren uns für transdisziplinäre Zugänge und würden uns besonders über Projektvorschläge freuen, die NICHT schon bei anderen Veranstaltern in der vorgelegten Form präsentiert wurden.

Die Beiträge sollen zwischen 15 und 30 Minuten dauern. Auf der Basis der Einreichungen werden wir die ausgewählten KünsterInnen kontaktieren, und sowohl zeitlich als auch bez. der KünstlerInnen-Honorare ein Angebot machen.

Eine Tonanlage (20 Lautsprecher, Digitalmischpult, Mikrophone) und ein Videoprojektor sind vorhanden. Darüber hinaus gehende technische bzw. Material-Erfordernisse müssen mit dem Gesamtbetrag der Honorare abgedeckt sein.

Falls Sie an der Mitwirkung interessiert sind, bitten wir bis 5.Dezember 2025 um ein Ausfüllen der Google Form mit folgenden Angaben:

• Titel des Projekts

• Namen der Mitwirkenden

• Dauer des Beitrags

• Kurzbeschreibung der Idee (maximal eine halbe Seite A4) mit Bezugnahme auf das Motto „Dirty hands"

• wenn möglich: Links zu Videos, Tonbeispielen etc. zur Illustration der Projektidee

• Liste der technischen Erfordernisse (technical rider)

• Kontaktdaten (Email, Telefon, Website)

• Falls nötig: terminliche Einschränkungen (14.3. oder 15.3.2025)

Über das Festival

Das aNOther Festival findet seit 2010 als Kooperation der IGNM Österreich mit der Internationalen Kulturplattform Wien statt und zeichnet sich durch eine extreme Vielfalt an Genres und Kunstsparten aus. Kaum ein anderes Festival bringt traditionelle Musik verschiedener ethnomusikalischer Hintergründe, zeitgenössische Kompositionen und Improvisationen, alternative Theater- und Literaturzugänge, multimediale Kunstformen sowie experimentelles DJ/VJ-ing oder performative Arbeiten bildender Künstler_innen in dieser Form zusammen.

Der kuratorische Zugang stellt stets Personen in den Mittelpunkt, die sich im künstlerischen Kontext exponieren, ihre persönliche Betroffenheit in die Auseinandersetzung mit aktuellen Themen einbringen und so Brücken zwischen Kunst und gesellschaftlich relevanten Fragestellungen schlagen. Darüber hinaus will das Festival unterschiedliche Szenen des nicht-etablierten Musik- und Kunstschaffens vernetzen und gesellschaftliche Minderheiten sichtbar machen.

Call for Participation

Dear friends and colleagues!

We are looking for artistic contributions for aNOther festival on March 14 and 15, 2026, at the Klangtheater of the Future Art Lab, mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, based on the theme “Dirty Hands”, which are deliberately designed to be interdisciplinary and cross-genre.

The urgency for artists to address the existential threat of climate change raises the question of how this could or should be done. While artists are probably not necessarily experts when it comes to calculating the carbon footprint of a performance, they are highly qualified to explore the boundaries between nature and culture or even to question them fundamentally.

Must art necessarily be artificial in the sense of unnatural? Wouldn’t it be an artistic approach to move away from abstraction and aloofness—perhaps even from human arrogance—and literally get our hands dirty?

Since the festival focuses on music (new compositions, improvisation, etc.), contributions should be predominantly musical in nature or have a clear connection to music, but ideally combine several disciplines or genres, for example from the following areas:

• Music of various genres from the non-commercial sector (e.g., new composition, improvisation, world music, fusion, singer-songwriters, etc.)

• Performance / installations / conceptual art

• Lecture performance / science communication in artistic form

We are interested in transdisciplinary approaches and would particularly welcome project proposals that have NOT already been presented to other organizers in the form submitted.

Contributions should last between 15 and 30 minutes. Based on the submissions, we will contact the selected artists and make an offer in terms of both time and artist fees.

A sound system (20 speakers, digital mixing console, microphones) and a video projector are available. Any additional technical or material requirements must be covered by the total amount of the fees.

About the festival

aNOther Festival has been held since 2010 as a collaboration between IGNM Austria and the International Cultural Platform Vienna and is characterized by an extreme diversity of genres and art forms. Hardly any other festival brings together traditional music from different ethnomusical backgrounds, contemporary compositions and improvisations, alternative approaches to theater and literature, multimedia art forms, experimental DJ/VJ-ing, and performative works by visual artists in this way.

The curatorial approach always focuses on individuals who expose themselves in an artistic context, bring their personal concerns to bear in their engagement with current issues, and thus build bridges between art and socially relevant questions. In addition, the festival aims to connect different scenes of non-established music and art creation and make social minorities visible.
